Colors yesterday...
Our colorful history started in 1991 with the opening of Colors Pizza Café, a full-service family restaurant in Encinitas, California. Our pizza oven was a roasting oven with a stone deck and we soon realized we could not make our pizza fast enough. The solution was to par-bake our crusts ahead of time.
A hotel executive chef who was a customer of the restaurant loved our pizza and asked if we could make pizza crust for his room service. One order led to another, and before long we were doing more business selling pizza crusts to hotels than in our own restaurant.
Today, the company focuses exclusively on the manufacture and distribution of quality handmade pizza products and, most recently, distribution of a variety of fine food products. Our customers range from family restaurants to some of the finest hotels, resorts, restaurants, casinos and a major theme park.
In 1994, we changed our name to Colors Gourmet Pizza and moved to a 3,500-square-foot production kitchen. We continued making our pizza crusts by hand, the same artisan way we had learned in our restaurant.
We listened to our chef customers and introduced more sizes, styles and shapes to satisfy the demand of our growing family of customers.
We expanded our distribution area to include Orange County and Los Angeles. To make deliveries to our customers more cost effective, we started representing a select few food manufacturers and added Distributor of Fine Foods to our name.
Colors’ reputation as a source of superior pizza products continued to grow among chefs as well as industry professionals who discovered our pizza crusts at professional competitions and trade shows. Distributors outside Southern California started offering our handmade pizza crusts to their customers, and by 2006 Colors needed a larger facility to accommodate our growing business.
Colors today and tomorrow…
Colors relocated to a new, 15,000-square-foot facility in Vista, California, and is still a perfect blend of products created by old world artisans and modern technology.
The list of our out-of-state distributors continues to grow and Colors’ customers in a dozen states serve their patrons about 10,000 pizzas daily using our product.
Our aim is to continue growing at a speed that will permit us to continue placing our customers as our first priority.
As we enter our third decade, we are proud of the human size of our company. All our products are still mixed in small batches, and hand-made by artisans …not machines
